My 5 Summer Reads
Summer is the time for relaxing, soaking up some sun, and reading! I am looking forward to the summer as I have so many exciting reads to get to. I made my summer TBR short for right now as I also have a summer full of events. But I am sure I will have more books sneaking their way into the list. Here are my 5 Summer Reads this summer!
My Summer TBR List
The Midnight Library
I came across The Midnight Library by Matt Haig at Target and the title caught my eye. I had no idea it would be about something so sad. It's about a woman named Nora Roberts who's great at swimming, writing songs, reading philosophy but sucks at life. Everything seems to be going wrong for her. Then one night, she decides to end it all and ends up in The Midnight Library. There, she's reminded of all her regrets and shown books that tell alternate stories based on different choices she could have made. She's given a chance to choose the best way to live.
Watering the Soul
When I was in Target, I came across a trilogy of poetry books by Courtney Peppernell. I already have her book Pillow Thoughts and read it in just one day. I really enjoy freeform short poems, so I was thrilled to see that she had a poetry book with themes that resonated with my recent experiences. Watering the Soul is all about nourishing your soul so it can grow again. The book is divided into sections and serves as a step-by-step recipe for healing your soul. It is filled with themes of forgiveness, gratitude, togetherness, and equality, which are important for everyone's healing process.
The Forest for the Trees
Betsy Lerner, an esteemed American book editor, shares her editorial wisdom and recounts her experiences of the publishing process in her book The Forest for the Trees. In this book, she explores various writer personality traits and addresses the concerns of new, upcoming, and stalled mid-career writers. As an aspiring writer hoping to author my own books one day, I am eager to read this book and gain insight and guidance into the life of a traditionally published writer.
Happy Place
Emily Henry is currently one of the most popular romance authors. Although I don't typically read contemporary romance, I've noticed her books all over the internet and I couldn't resist finding out what all the fuss is about. So, I caved in and purchased a copy of Happy Place. Harriet and Wyn have been seen as the perfect couple ever since they met in college until they broke up five months before their annual trip to the Maine cottage. Their best friends are unaware of the breakup, and Harriet and Wyn are determined to keep it that way, especially since this trip will be their last together before the cottage is sold. The couple will have to pretend to be in love, despite their true feelings, to spare their friends' feelings. So, how hard can it be to fake being in love with someone you've already loved for many years?
Crown of Midnight
Alas, I continue to make my way through the Throne of Glass series. Crown of Midnight is the third book in the series. Celaena Sardothien is the King’s Champion. Although her allegiance to the king is anything but loyal, she must carry out assassinations for him to win her freedom in four years. However, her risky charade becomes more difficult to keep up with as those closest are no longer safe from suspicion of turning against the king.
What’s on your summer TBR list? Have you read any of the books I mentioned above? If so, what are your thoughts?
