PepTalk

You’re too FLUID.

You’re swayed too easily.

YOU ARE NOT grounded.

You lose your cool over anything

That changes.

You do not have plans

You are insecure.

You panic,

Breakdown.

Yet, somehow you get it together;

Then you start over.

But plant yourself this time

So you stay GROUNDED.

Personal Statement

I wrote this poem during my years at university. My sophomore year was the most pivotal time in college. I made so many mistakes. And when I made mistakes, I shut down. I'd think so mean of myself and throw a pity party. Talk about being hard on yourself. Sometimes I would not go to others for advice or to vent. I hated when others saw me fail and I wouldn’t speak about some of my mistakes. So I isolated myself when I felt shame and wrote. This poem is one of those times. Whenever I get in a funk and it seems like I can’t pick myself back up, I look to this little pep talk: to breathe, to ground, to start again.
